Pre-Workout Supplements

Pre-workout supplements are currently all the rage in the supplement industry. It all started with NO X-Plode and then spread like wildfire. Now every supplement company manufactures some type of pre-workout supplement. Usually all these products have similar ingredients. Ingredients such as:

-Caffeine and other stimulants for the energy for the workouts

-Arginine for the “pump”

-Creatine for the cell volumization, leverage, and to assist in the “pump”

-Beta Alanine to buffer lactic acid, allowing for a few more reps before the set is terminated

-Ingredients like DMAE, L-Tyrosine, and Ginko Biloba to help with focus

Of course there are other ingredients. Companies try and use these ingredients to differentiate their product from the competition.

There are several ways to take pre-workout supplements. You can do a few things to make these supplements even more effective:

-Take at least 30 minutes before your workout. This is done to make sure that the product has “kicked in”.

-Avoid diet pills or any other supplements containing stimulants.

-Take some time off after 6-8 weeks on the product. This is done to give your adrenal glands a break. Often times you will notice that after an extended time taking the product, that the product doesn’t feel as strong. Taking a break from the product will help with that. When you resume, it will feel like you are taking the product for the first time.

What pre-workout products are the best?
This is another tough question. Opinions will vary with these products just like they do with fat burners. My suggestion is just give a few a try and judge for yourself. Here are some products that sell well and generally have good feedback:

BSN NO-Xplode
Gaspari Nutrition SuperPump250
VPX NO Shotgun V.3
MRI Black Powder
Controlled Labs White Flood
