Cytosport Monster Amino

Cytosport continues to add products to its “Monster” line with Monster Amino. Monster Amino is basically a Branched Chain Amino Acid (BCAA) and Waxy Maize carbohydrate product. Monster Amino helps to protect lean muscle mass during training and helps increase protein synthesis after your workouts.

I am a big fan of BCAAs and shockingly I think I like this product. You have to remember that if a product has lots of BCAAs it’s not going to taste good. Plus, if you include waxy maize, it makes the product a little thicker and tougher to drink. That being said, I think these two are a nice combination and I think it would be beneficial to take a product like this during workouts.

I have discussed BCAAs in a previous post so I won’t go into detail as to how they work and why you should take them. I think they are very important regardless of your training goals.

Cytosport has also included the waxy maize complex carb blend in Monster Amino. it’s a much better choice than sugar, that’s for sure. Waxy maize works much faster in the body than traditional complex carbs, which gives your body faster muscle hydration and glycogen replenishment.

If you have taken lots of protein powders in your day you have probably heard of Carbogen. Carbogen helps you digest your carbs to allow for an even breakdown and utilization of the carbs in the formula.

The drawback that I see with this formula is that you are only getting 5 grams of BCAAs per scoop. I would want more than that for a per-workout product. If you decide to take several scoops you would end up going through a jug pretty quickly. So keep that in mind when purchasing the product.

I can’t believe I am saying this, but…..I like what Cytosport has done with Monster Amino and the “Monster“ line of Cytosport products. it’s a nice product and is in an area of supplementation that is relatively new, the peri-workout nutrition.
