PhosMuscle-Link Cort-Bloc, 60 Capsulesphatidylserine (PS) is present in the cells of every living thing. Your body has to have it for proper brain function. PS is known to enhance mental acuity, improve memory, and potentially lower cortisol levels.

So you have people that use it for 2 different things. Phosphatidylserine helps with your brain and its function, and it helps with lowering cortisol which is the biggest reason bodybuilders are interested in it.

All this sounds great, but you have to take PS a while in order to get the benefits. Its not one of those supplements that you notice and can feel working immediately.

Phosphatidylserine side effects

Notable side effects include insomnia and nausea. I didn’t have any negative side effects with PS supplementation. Also, if you have kidney problems you should probably stay away from taking this supplement.

Phosphatidylserine and Cortisol

As mentioned earlier, PS can be used by bodybuilders looking to get leaner. PS helps with this by lowering cortisol levels. High cortisol levels can destroy muscle tissue, which is definitely not something you want to happen.

Some users have noticed a drop in body fat when taking phosphatidylserine. This is the reason that I have been playing around with this supplement. Experts have stated that in order to get the body fat and cortisol reduction benefits from PS that you should take it in higher doses.

Phosphatidylserine Dosage

The old recommendation was to take around 800mg of PS per day. Now I have seen where as much as 2000mg per day is needed to get good results from a losing body fat standpoint. The problem with the 2000mg dose is that PS is a very expensive supplement. And it is not manufactured in high doses. So it would cost quite a bit of money to try this amount of PS for long enough to see if it works. I have taken that dose for about 4 weeks and couldn’t tell a huge difference. Next time I experiment with PS I will plan to take this amount for no less than 12 weeks to see what the benefits will be.

There are not a lot of supplements out there that have really high doses of phosphatidylserine in them. I know Biorhythm’s Afterglow contains about 800mg per 2 scoop serving. Which is pretty good. Sometimes supplement companies include PS in a blend so its hard to tell how much is actually in the product. Probably the best phosphatidylserine supplement is Muscle-Link Cort-Bloc. It is one of the few PS supplements geared toward bodybuilders.

For mental sharpness and other cognitive benefits, phosphatidylserine works well. For bodybuilding purposes the jury is still out. Until more evidence presents itself, it may be wise to try other supplements.

I liked your article, very informative and non-biased. I used to take this a couple of months ago. I have a site on creatine and just found two studies that focused on brain function. Very similar results to phosphatidylserine. I wonder what would happen if you were to supplement with both? I think the main advantage of phosphatidylserine is the lowering of Cortisol, which damages the health of the body. Cortisol levels increase when you workout (with weights) for longer than 45 mins to an hour. After this time span, Cortisol starts to be released into the body (Bad!). Shorter workouts cause the natural increase of testosterone levels.
